October Capital Markets Recap

November 5, 2021

After a disappointing September, the month of October welcomed vulnerable equity investors with open arms to kick off the 4th quarter of the year. In October, I believe there were three key topics; corporate Q3 earnings season, increased talk of US recession risks, and the Bank of Canada’s very hawkish tilt. See attached as we uncover these issues in the October Monthly Market Comments.

Another positive thought is one surrounding capital markets and seasonality. September is historically the weakest month in terms of performance and in the odds of being positive for both the S&P500 and S&P/TSX Indices. The months October thru January have historically produced very positive results for investors!

In Summary:

The Good News- September has come and gone!

The Great News- We are now in a historically very strong period for equities!

Bottom Line – If we get a correction, it’s important to remember that the markets reward investors who are eternal optimists and take advantage of the pullback.
